Tropical Nights Artist Additions & Your Resort Experience
Only three more weeks until we’re basking in the warm sun on the Mexican Riviera. And just announced – we’ll have a few more friends joining us! Read on for more information on recent artist additions, tips on how to use your resort credits, and more!
Longtime SCI collaborator and friend, Jamie Janover, brings us his new project with vocalist and keyboard player reSUNator, who sings in both English and Chinese. Janover’s life-long interest in the true nature of reality and the universe has brought him to become an official emissary for scientist Nassim Haramein of the Resonance Project. Catch Jamie’s fascinating presentation on the physics of Unified Field Theory.
Van Ghost, Chicago’s favorite Americana rock darlings, join SCI’s International Incident on the evening of January 22nd at 7PM! Veteran Ghost Unit members Michael Harrison Berg, Jennifer Hartswick, Natalie Cressman and Grant Tye will be joined by special guests Nick Cassarino (The Nth Power), Dave Watts (The Motet) & Garret Sayers (The Motet).
DJ Motion Potion (aka Robert Kowal) is one of the Bay Area’s hardest working and most innovative and versatile DJ’s. We’re thrilled to have him for some afternoon and late-nights sets in Mexico. Legends like Isaac Hayes, Dr John, and Maceo Parker have all called on Motion Potion’s deep vault of musical knowledge to open their shows and rock their set-breaks, whether it’s rare grooves, oldschool hip-hop, the new mash-ups, African beats, 70’s disco moves, Latin rhythyms, psychedelic jams, or any possible variety of funky treats. His only rule is that it must be funky: “If it ain’t on the one, he ain’t havin’ none.”
PLANNING YOUR RESORT EXPERIENCE
At Hard Rock Hotel Riviera Maya, the all-inclusive good times are non-stop. But you’ll want to take advantage of your room’s Complimentary Resort Credits, and maybe then some. Use your Resort Credits for a variety of special Experiences and Activities – including spa treatments, golf rounds, special dining experiences, off-site excursions and more. Complimentary Resort Credits are also applicable toward many off-site excursions including the Tulum Express and the Aktun Chen Cavern trips.
Once you’ve arrived on site and checked-in, head to the Concert Concierge Desk for details and bookings. All experiences and excursions are subject to space and availability. Reminder: A service fee of 11% will be applied to all purchases made using resort credits.
TIPPING AT THE RESORT
Wondering when and if you should tip workers at the resort? There’s no right or wrong answer. Some folks feel they’ve paid for an all-inclusive and that should include tips. Heads up that much like in the U.S., service industry workers in Mexico don’t make much of a wage – so a little gratuity every now and then goes a long way. If you’re inclined to tip, our suggestion is to keep 20 peso and 50 peso notes on hand. They’re worth about $1.50 and $3.75 USD, respectively. Use them to tip whomever and however the heck you want. You can also tip in US currency and it will still be appreciated.
THEME NIGHT – LET US HEAR YOU ROAR!
Saturday, February 22nd is Theme Night at the Hard Rock with Leopard Prints & Jungle Stripes! This is your chance to get creative and show-off your inner animal. Get wild, get funky and plan to bring the jungle to the beach!
Art Supplies Drive to Support Library in Akumal, Mexico
The String Cheese Incident and Conscious Alliance are teaming up to give back to the same community where their Mexican adventures started in 1998 – Akumal! Hekab Be Biblioteca is Akumal’s local library, and it’s where they also host an after-school program for the local children. This after school program serves as a safe haven for children ages 3-12, offering classes and activities including language lessons, music and art programs, yoga and sports, and more.
Please consider contributing to the Hekab Be Biblioteca community by packing a few art supplies in your luggage to donate to the Library. Donation bins will be located in the lobby of the resort, where you can drop supplies any time.
Needed Art Supplies:
- Colored Pencils
- Colored Paper
- Glue Sticks
- Sketch Books
- Paint Brushes
Thank you for your support and we look forward to working together to support the local community in Mexico! Stay tuned for information on a service-learning excursion to the library!
